Family Advocacy Program

Providing critical support, legal guidance, and compassionate care for families impacted by police violence—every step of the way.

Advocacy Duties:

  1. Liaison between police department, BCI and family to keep families updated on investigation​

  2. Formal notifications to family member of the deceased​

  3. Legal Assessment of case providing legal assistance when necessary​

  4. Support system and resources available to the families including grief counseling, burial information, victim resources, etc.​

  5. Post investigation, advocate group will continue providing resources to family members until deemed unnecessary

Care Packages:

  1. Funeral homes that take down payments, and make payment arrangements ​

  2. Churches that will let people have their funeral service at their church with small or no payment ​

  3.  Places that will donate clothing for the deceased ​

  4. Who to call to make vigil arrangements

  5. Flower information

  6. Food Information ​

  7. Clergy information ​

  8. Attorneys to call ​

  9. OFUAPB contact information ​

  10. Where and how to receive police and hospital records about the victim

  11. Contacts for free grief counseling

  12. Obituary information sheet​

  13. Assistance with rent, utilities when the loss of a loved prevents family members to immediately return to work
